上周，马斯克等上千名科技人士发表公开信，呼吁暂停训练比GPT-4更强大的人工智能系统。这封公开信称，所有人工智能实验室应立即暂停训练比GPT-4更强大的人工智能系统，至少6个月时间。否则，政府就应该介入采取强制措施。
对此，盖茨周二在接受采访时称，暂停开发并不能真正解决问题。相反，弄清楚如何最优地利用人工智能领域的发展才是硬道理。而且，真正在全球范围内暂停人工智能技术的开发，似乎也不太现实。
盖茨还称：“我认为，要求某一特定群体暂停开发人工智能技术，是无法解决相关挑战的。显然，这些东西很实用。我们需要做的是找出棘手的问题，并加以解决。
当前，虽然盖茨全身心专注于其慈善机构“比尔和梅琳达·盖茨基金会”，但他一直是人工智能的乐观支持者，并将其描述为与互联网或手机一样具有革命性。
3月21日，盖茨还在他的博客GatesNotes上撰文称，人工智能时代已开启，并预测了人工智能将如何改变就业、气候变化、医疗保健和教育等领域。
但随后（上周一），马斯克就给盖茨的这番言论泼冷水。马斯克在推特上称：“我之前曾与盖茨讨论过人工智能，他对这项技术的理解十分有限。直至今日，依然如此。”
其实，马斯克与盖茨长期以来一直就是针尖对麦芒，相互看不上对方。今年2月，盖茨曾表示，他宁愿资助疫苗来拯救生命，也不愿花钱去火星。
他说：“实际上，去火星的花费相当高。相反，你可以购买麻疹疫苗，救一条生命只需1000美元。”盖茨还称，至少到目前为止，马斯克还不是一位伟大的慈善家。
而马斯克也曾表示：“老实说，我和盖茨的对话一直索然无味。”
